HISTIDINE

Histidine is an amino acid that plays a major role in growth and tissue reparation. It also treats ulcers, allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, and anemia. Histidine aids in the production of red and white blood cells. It forms histamine, which is released by cells as an immune response. Histidine and histamine are involved in the chelation of trace elements such as copper. Hemoglobin contains a high histidine content.

It is important for children to obtain enough of the amino acid during growth periods through dietary sources. It is nonessential for adults because apparently it is synthesized at adequate levels.
