Ornithine is produced in the urea cycle by the splitting off of urea from arginine and is itself converted into citrulline. (Urea is formed in the liver from amino acids and from compounds of ammonia.) Along with arginine and carnitine, ornithine triggers the release of growth hormones and thus encourages muscle-building. This actions also support the immune system and the liver.
