WHEAT GERM

Wheatgerm is the part of the wheat kernel extracted during milling. Wheatgerm is especially high in protein, insoluble fiber, Vitamin E, folic acid, riboflavin, niacin, zinc, thiamine, iron, magnesium, and potassium. Wheatgerm has a surprisingly good flavor and can be added to a variety of foods.

Because wheatgerm is quite vulnerable to rancidity, it should be purchased only if vacuum packed or refrigerated. Close attention should be paid to the packing date and freshness label. While toasted wheatgerm has a longer shelf-life, the raw, unprocessed form is preferable. This supplement is available as an oil or capsules and should always be tightly sealed when stored.
